Miyamoto New Zealand was engaged by Metlifecare to carry out a detailed seismic assessment of a large and complex apartment development.
This development included multiple buildings connected by a shared basement and podium, making the structural behaviour more challenging to understand. To get a clear picture, our engineers used advanced techniques - non-linear pushover and response spectrum analysis - to test how the buildings would perform in an earthquake.
Through this process, we identified areas where the buildings could be strengthened, such as improving the way the floors and walls worked together. Most importantly, the analysis showed that the overall development reached more than 70% of New Building Standard (NBS).
