Miyamoto New Zealand was engaged by Metlifecare to carry out a detailed seismic assessment of a complex multi-building apartment development. The structures, which share a common basement and podium level, were analysed using advanced non-linear pushover and response spectrum methods. This in-depth assessment identified key vulnerabilities, including insufficient diaphragm shear capacity and inadequate starter bar anchorage to the shear walls. By applying performance-based engineering and non-linear analysis, Miyamoto was able to demonstrate that the development achieved an assessment level greater than 70%NBS, providing clarity and confidence in the buildings’ seismic resilience.
