Sillman Archeticts has partnered with Miyamoto International Inc (our US based partners) to deliver a Tier 3 Seismic Evaluation of the County of San Diego Emergency Operations Centre – the command hub that must stay operational when disaster strikes.
Following the ASCE 41-23 Tier 3 process and using advanced Nonlinear Dynamic Procedure(NDP) analysis, we’re assessing the building against the stringent requirements for Risk Category IV facilities – the highest resilience standard for essential emergency infrastructure.
Built in1995, the two-storey base-isolated structure plays a critical role in protecting lives during seismic events. Miyamoto New Zealand’s initial findings show the facility falls short of today’s Immediate Occupancy and Life Safety performance objectives.
We are now working closely with stakeholders to design a state-of-the-art seismic retrofit that will ensure the Centre meets – and exceeds – current code requirements, keeping San Diego ready when it matters most.
